The symposium for children with Prof. Luc Montagnier was opened with Mr. Yukiyasu Hayashi, Secretary General of World Foundation Aids Research and Prevention, Japan Office. The opening speech was made by Mr. Shigeru Sugiyama, Mayor of Ono-town, which was followed by Piano Concert by Ms. Yoko Tokue. After the piano concert, the children received a lecture by Prof. Kihara (graduate school of Kyoto University), who is a leading expert in the filled of AIDS research in Japan. Then 900 junior high school students received a message from Prof. Luc Montagnier saying that they have two responsibilities. One is to protect oneself from getting infected by the HIV virus by educating oneself. And the other is to help people suffering from this disease in poverty. Then the children had an opportunity to ask questions of the world famous scientist. He answered respectfully all the questions posed by the children.

Following the symposium, a discussion of AIDS was held at YMA Hall of the World Foundation for Aids Research and Prevention Japan Office in the afternoon. Besides the main participants listed below, local school teachers, housewives and university students also joined the discussion as to how we can deal with AIDS and how to proceed with AIDS education.
