The symposium for children with Prof. Luc Montagnier was opened with Mr. Yukiyasu Hayashi, Secretary General of World Foundation Aids Research and Prevention, Japan Office. The opening speech was made by Mr. Shigeru Sugiyama, Mayor of Ono-town, which was followed by Piano Concert by Ms. Yoko Tokue. After the piano concert, the children received a lecture by Prof. Kihara (graduate school of Kyoto University), who is a leading expert in the filled of AIDS research in Japan. Then 900 junior high school students received a message from Prof. Luc Montagnier saying that they have two responsibilities. One is to protect oneself from getting infected by the HIV virus by educating oneself. And the other is to help people suffering from this disease in poverty. Then the children had an opportunity to ask questions of the world famous scientist. He answered respectfully all the questions posed by the children.

SUMMARY
  1. To get the best result, we should start educating children about AIDS before the age of 13 years old.
  2. It is most important to talk about AIDS with children in order to protect them. Even if we think it is a difficult topic to talk about AIDS with children, it must be easier than difficulties they would have if they were to become infected by the HIV virus.
