2009/11/25/The new 2009 AIDS Epidemic Update.

The new 2009 AIDS Epidemic Update was released on 24 November 2009 by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the World Health Organization (WHO). According to the report, the number of people living with HIV worldwide continued to grow in 2008, reaching an estimated 33.4 million. It was 33 million in 2007, so it was increased about 400 thousands in one year. People newly infected by HIV in 2008 are estimated 2.7 million and it has been reduced by 17% over the past eight years. It is considered that HIV prevention programmes are making a difference.  People died of AIDS related illness in 2008 are estimated 2 million, which has declined by over 10% compared with 2.2 million at the peak in 2004.

However, new HIV infections and AIDS patients continued to be rising in Japan and we are still under a serious situation.
